Here are some current photo's of the USS SAVANNAH (AOR-4).   As you can see, her name and hull numbers have been painted over and she is located in one of the cluster of ships.   She is in dire need of hull maintenance which of course will never happen.

USS SAVANNAH (AOR-4) was stricken from the Navy Register of Vessels and transferred to the U. S. Department of Transportation, U. S. Maritime Administration (MARAD).   MARAD's fleet facility offices are located at Ft. Eustis, Virginia.   MARAD has scheduled SAVANNAH for scrapping in March 2006.

There are no public tours of the ships in the James River Reserve Fleet, also known as the "Ghost Fleet."   Private boats are restricted from approaching within 500 feet.

Photo of the bow?   Many think not!
Did SAVANNAH have a dome on the bow?
Some shipmates believe the partial view of the ship
to the far right in the photo could be her.

Maybe this settles any doubt!
